Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) - drug information from medilexicon
    Company: AstraZeneca

    Approval Status: Approved February 2001

Treatment for: Duodenal ulcer disease, erosive esophagitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease

    Areas: Gastrointestinal

General Information Clinical Results Negative effects Mechanism of Action Further information

    General Information

Nexium has been licensed by the FDA for the relief of heartburn
and also other symptoms connected with gastroesophageal reflux disease
(GERD) and also for the healing of erosive esophagitis, a potentially
serious condition connected with GERD. The FDA also approved
Nexium for repair off healing of erosive esophagitis and, in
in conjunction with amoxicillin and clarithromycin, with the
eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients
    with duodenal ulcer disease.

Nexium is derived from Prilosec (omeprazole). Prilosec contains
a racemic combination of the D- and L- forms (isomers) of omeprazole. Nexium contains just one with the isomers. Both Prilosec and Nexium
are known as proton pump inhibitors.

As many as 25 million adults experience heartburn using a daily
basis buy nasonex online without prescription. Although heartburn is regarded as the common sign of GERD, the
condition can be often marked by other symptoms - say for example a sour
style of the mouth or difficulty swallowing - relevant to the
storing of harsh gastric acid into your esophagus. Once this acid
reflux damages the lining of the esophagus, it may well create a
potentially more dangerous condition called erosive esophagitis that
can lead to narrowing or ulceration with the esophagus.

    Clinical Results

Four multicenter, double-blind, randomized trials evaluated the
healing rates of Nexium 40 mg, Nexium 20 mg, and omeprazole 20 mg
in subjects with endoscopically diagnosed erosive esophagitis. Healing rates were evaluated at week four and eight. At week eight,
healing rates were higher with Nexium treatment as compared to
omeprazole in all of the four studies.

    Two multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled
4-arm trials evaluated the long-term upkeep of healing of
erosive esophagitis. The trials included subjects with
endoscopically confirmed, healed erosive esophagitis, and so they
evaluated Nexium 40 mg, 20 mg and 10 mg once-daily over a few months
of treatment. Subjects remained in remission significantly longer
along with the volume of recurrences of erosive esophagitis was
a reduced amount of in subjects addressed with Nexium in comparison with
    placebo.

Nexium's effectiveness within the resolution of GERD symptoms
was evaluated into two multicenter, randomized, double-blind,
placebo-controlled trials. These trials were conducted in the total
of 717 subjects, and they compared four weeks of treatment with
Nexium 20 mg or 40 mg once daily versus placebo. The percentage of
subjects have been symptom-free of heartburn was significantly
higher from the Nexium groups as compared to placebo by any means follow-up
    visits (weeks 1, 2 and 4).

In three European symptomatic GERD trials, no significant
treatment related differences were observed between Nexium 20 mg
and 40 mg and omeprazole 20 mg.

Nexium in combination with amoxicillan and clarithromycin was
tested by 50 percent multicenter, randomized, double-blind trials to the
eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in subjects with
duodenal ulcer disease. H. pylori eradication rates at a month
post-therapy were significantly higher within the Nexium plus
amoxicillin and clarithromycin group compared with a Nexium plus
    clarithromycin or Nexium alone group.

    Uncomfortable side effects

Side effects reported with Nexium use include (but aren't
    limited to) the next:

    • Headache

    • Diarrhea

    • Abdominal pain

Safety and effectiveness have not yet been established in
    pediatric patients.

Please talk to your physician for even more home elevators side
effects or even discuss the average person appropriateness of Nexium
    treatment.

    Mechanism of Action

Esomeprazole is usually a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric
acid secretion by specific inhibition of H+/K+-ATPase within the
gastric parietal cell. By acting specifically around the proton pump,
esomeprazole blocks the final help acid production, thus
reducing gastric acidity. This effect is dose-related up to and including daily
dose of 20 to 40 mg and contributes to inhibition of gastric acid
secretion. buy retin-a online without prescription (Nexium Prescribing Information)

    My freshmen year of
college in 1998 was as i had what can be classified as
"moderate" cystic acne vulgaris by deep nodules. The six
pictures on this section illustrate my skin during the last three
many years of my college career from 1999 to 2001. My major trouble areas
for acne blemishes were my forehead, cheek, chin and neck. I also
had "body acne" on my chest, shoulders and back. During
now I had been inconsistently using oral antibiotics plus a
selection of topical anti-acne medications with virtually no long term
    results.

    Cheek & Neck - January 2004

    Once i
stated earlier, my duration of Accutane and the generic Sotret brand
of Isotretinoin was from December 2003 to June 2004. Within the first
picture in this section, you can still understand the red marks remaining
from the massive "multi-zits" that exploded on my small cheek, neck and
chin in the initial breakout at the 2 week mark.

    February 2004 - Forehead

    February 2004 - Cheek & Neck

    By the end
of January plus the beginning of February 2004, that was around the
4 weeks mark, my face was starting to look significantly better. I
was no longer concerned about acne, but I had to suffer
with the side effects of Accutane including dry eyes, dry
cracking lips, increased sensitivity for the sun, dried-out skin, dry
scalp, dandruff, plus a red bumpy rash in my hands. I discuss most of
the items that we found worked wise to alleviate the medial side effects
    around my detailed Accutane Journal.

    March 2004 - Forehead

    By March
2004, my third month of taking Accutane, I had the medial side effects
mostly manageable. My skin was looking clear but always that has a
red sunburned look attributable to the raised UV sensitivity. My self
esteem and confidence was soaring as evidenced by the big beaming
smiles which are mostly absent inside "Before Accutane" pictures
    section above.

    April 2004 - Cheek

    The very last
several months of my 6 month Accutane treatment were considerably
easier since I had my negative effects relatively at bay and my
skin was looking better every single day buy lumigan online without prescription. Despite the fact that my face was clearer

being consistent during your the antibiotics and continued to look at my

    August 2004 - Forehead

    August 2004 - Cheek

    August 2004 - Chest

    The primary
three pictures above were taken sixty days as i completed my 6
month Accutane treatment. The three pictures here are from your spanning a
year while i took my last Isotretinoin pill. In the event you look closely
under the dark hairs on my small chest, all the body acne cystic
nodules have disappeared. I do not have "before" pictures of my
chest or back because before using Accutane, I didn't contain the
confidence to take off my shirt when in front of other individuals with the exception of
    my closest friends.

    July 2005 - Chest

    It has been a
number of years considering that the last pictures here were taken, I'm about
to turn 29 years of age, and my face still looks just like clear. I'm
almost 100% without doubt I'll never need to be worried about acne again
on account of Isotretinoin. Go through the following links revisit my
